DETAILS
The Midway’s Artist-in-Residence Post:ballet unveils Magma, an evening-length immersive experience inspired by the myth of Cassandra, who was cursed with the power to see the future while no one believed her visions. Told through an ominous, contemporary lens, Magma unfolds across six rooms in The Midway, weaving together an awe-inspiring blend of choreography, text, music, lighting, and projection for a modern day masterpiece by choreographer/director Moscelyne ParkeHarrison.
Guests decide where to go and what to see, ensuring that everyone’s journey is unique and each performance is different. Fueled by the contemporary dance artists of Post:ballet, “a company that not only lives dangerously- it thrives on it,” (SF Chronicle), Magma peels back the layers of truth to reveal a gripping social commentary on humanity’s desire to understand and control the world around them.
Following the Friday and Saturday shows, join us for a Post:party with guest DJs, special performances, and more. Party collaborations to be announced soon!
Warning: This performance includes the use of haze.

About Post:ballet
Post:ballet was founded in 2009 by Robin Dekkers, named “25 to Watch” by DANCE Magazine, with a vision to push the ballet envelope through innovative multidisciplinary collaborations. SF Chronicle noted that Post is “a company that not only lives dangerously- it thrives on it,” and SF Arts Monthly called Post’s productions “decidedly daring and always beautifully performed.”
Integrating classically-trained dancers with artists working in animation, architecture, new music, cinematography, fashion, and visual arts, Post’s collaborations range from intensely intimate to wildly conceptual.
The Post:community and audiences are as different from the traditional ballet audience as Post is from a traditional ballet company. 65% of Post:ballet audiences live in San Francisco or corresponding regions. 65% have a household income of $120,000+, and 80% are between the ages of 25 and 40.
The Post:ballet audience are an intersection of community leaders, style trendsetters, and technology executives who are at the forefront of Bay Area life.
